Patient Testimonial
A healthy young adult, Maggie had a stroke when she was just 32-years-old. Doctors
believe it was the result of a head injury Maggie sustained when she fell while
ice skating with her family. The affects of the stroke were devastating to Maggie
whose career as a registered nurse required a great deal of mobility and energy.
Maggie was initially fitted with an ankle foot orthosis (AFO) but was discouraged
by its bulkiness and rigidity. She was also very disappointed with the type of shoes
she was restricted to wearing with the AFO.
Fitted with the WalkAide in September 2006, Maggie reports that she is thrilled
to be able to live her life “unencumbered” once again. She is able to walk outside
on various terrains and says that the WalkAide has given her the confidence she
needs to stay mobile. An avid shopper, Maggie is able to walk through malls and
buy just about any type of shoe she desires!
As a neurology education nurse working primarily with stroke patients, Maggie believes
the WalkAide is great tool for proving to patients that paralysis doesn’t have to
be limiting.
