Patient Testimonial

Herb tells a story that is unfortunately all too common among stroke victims. Less than a year after his stroke, Herb had reached a plateau in his physical therapy efforts. His clinician describes Herb's walk at that time as the 'typical' stroke walk, catching his toe periodically with the AFO. He also relates Herb's general sense of resignation to his condition.

Herb himself describes the difficulty in coping with footdrop every day. "I had fallen twice and dislocated my shoulder both times – this made me apprehensive about walking. So I spent a good bit of time in the wheelchair and a good bit of time sitting." In addition to these challenges, Herb's Achilles tendon was becoming shorter from disuse which then lead to more walking problems; a negative cycle that he had no easy way to break.

As you will hear in the videos, after nine months with the WalkAide, Herb's drive for experiencing life is very strong. He looks forward to wearing cowboy boots again and, "in the not too distant future, playing golf." His positive focus on the future is a theme echoed by our patients over and over again.

Here's what Herb said about his experiences with the WalkAide:

"I've had the WalkAide for nine months now. Immediately my gait was longer; I was steadier on my feet, I didn't have the stress and fear of falling. It made a great difference in my life. I did away with the orthopedic shoes and did away with the AFO within three days."

"I am Able to walk up and down steps without any problems."

"Since the WalkAide I look forward to traveling again. We spend our vacations and much of the year seeing the country. Now we can go back to traveling again."

"It's very simple to use the WalkAide...I use it all day long."
