Advanced WalkAide Course
Prerequisite: Successful completion of a ‘basic’ WalkAide training course.
Continuing Education Credits (CEU): Up to 6.5 CEU have been approved by ABC
Course Description: This course covers the current advances in the WalkAide® System, neurological theories and recently published research involving FES. Lecture and participant interaction will focus on higher level therapeutic and neuroprosthetic applications for the lower extremity using functional electrical stimulation (FES) to the Peroneal Nerve. The course will provide clinicians with an opportunity to improve their skills related to patient evaluation, gait assessment, application of the WalkAide® System using the WalkAnalyst® software and promotion of the best functional outcomes for patients. Clinicians and lecturers will bring challenging case studies to the event, allowing for high level discussion of diagnoses, gait patterns, physiological dysfunction and means for addressing them successfully using FES alone or in conjunction with therapeutic techniques. Patient models will add yet another dimension to the problem-solving lab.
Clinicians will learn to build better support systems for themselves and their patients, by integrating physicians, orthotists, physical therapists and support specialists into their patient care team.
This course is relevant to Physical Therapists and Orthotists with a high level of experience.
