What is Myo-Orthotics TechnologyTM?
Innovative Neurotronics coined the term Myo-Orthotics TechnologyTM to describe the merging of orthotic technology,
which braces a limb, with electrical stimulation, which restores
specific muscle function. More than simply bracing a limb to
improve mobility, Myo-Orthotics TechnologyTM devices actually restore
the functionality of an impaired limb by recreating a natural
nerve-to-muscle response using electrical stimulation.
Orthotics and prosthetics, commonly referred to as O&P,
is the branch of medicine that specializes in bracing weakened
or injured joints and muscles, and the replacement of musculoskeletal
extremities, such as feet, hands, arms, legs, etc., with artificial
limbs.
The goal of the O&P profession is to improve a person’s health and
quality of life. O&P practitioners are medically trained professionals:
- In the orthotics field, professional medical orthotists design, fabricate,
fit, and maintain standard and custom-made braces that provide
external support to patients suffering from musculoskeletal
and neurological disorders, as well as injuries from sports
or other activities.
- In the prosthetics field, professional prosthetists design,
fabricate, fit, and maintain custom-made artificial limbs for
people who are without limbs as a result of traumatic injuries,
vascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, or congenital disorders.
Myo-Orthotics TechnologyTM offers the potential for greater mobility,
functionality, and freedom. Generally speaking, these devices are
worn on the skin, rather than implanted under the skin, which means
surgery is not involved. And because Myo-Orthotics TechnologyTM products
re-establish communications between nerves and the muscles, they
produce a more natural movement than an orthosis (brace) alone
might achieve.
